Positive Pay System (PPS) for Cheque Payments

Amendment in Positive Pay System (PPS) Threshold Limits for Cheque Payments through Cash & Transfer Modes w.e.f. 07.01.2026 and Introduction of Customer-defined PPS Limit in CBS

Please refer to the existing guidelines wherein Positive Pay System (PPS) for cheque payments through Cash and Transfer (including remittance) modes for cheques of ₹50,000/- and above was made mandatory w.e.f. 01.04.2023.

 

Now, Revised PPS limits has been  implemented in CBS w.e.f. 07.01.2026 are as under:

The revised PPS limits shall be applicable only in cases where the cheque is presented by a person other than the account holder himself/herself.

 

Please note that the existing exemption provision under PPS shall remain unchanged. Cheques amounting up to ₹4,99,999/-, when presented by the account holder himself/herself, or by authorised signatories in case of non-personal accounts, shall continue to be exempted from the PPS mechanism.

 

New Option for Customers to Set Their Own PPS Threshold Limit

 

A new functionality has been developed in CBS , whereby customers are provided an option to set their own PPS threshold limit as per their risk appetite.

 

Through this facility, customers may approach the branch to fix any desired PPS threshold limit of ₹50,000/- and above, subject to the applicable mandatory PPS limits. The threshold limit so fixed by the customer may be modified subsequently, as per requirement.

 

It is clarified that this customer-defined PPS limit:

  • is applicable only for cheques presented under Cash and Transfer modes, and
  • can be set from ₹50,000/- up to below the mandatory PPS threshold limit applicable to the respective account type.

The application form for setting/modifying the PPS limit is enclosed with this circular.

 

 

Digital Channel

The functionality for providing customers the option to fix/modify PPS threshold limits through digital channels is currently under development. The same shall be communicated separately once made live.

 

Modes of Submission of PPS

As per existing instructions, customers may submit PPS details through the following modes:

 

  1. Physical submission of PPS mandate at any branch, irrespective of the account location
  2. Cent eeZ application
  3. WhatsApp Banking
  4. SMS
  5. Internet Banking
